# TBR Drop: June 24 — The Quiet Hunt
Nearly ten thousand domains hit the pool Wednesday morning, and when the dust settled, 209 made it into registrar hands. That's a 2.09% catch rate — lean enough to remind us that most dropped names still find their way to the open market, but competitive enough that the quick and serious were definitely working.
WHC Online Solutions Inc. owned this session, landing 142 of the 209 caught domains. That's a near-total monopoly, and they weren't shy about chasing quality. They picked up emf.ca (three-character brand gold), blub.ca, etai.ca, and a clean run of dictionary words: rambles.ca, stretchers.ca, basically.ca, tossed.ca, and wahoo.ca. That kind of volume and breadth suggests they had a solid morning. BareMetal.com inc came in second with 43 catches — respectable — and landed some real gems themselves: grieving.ca, cheep.ca, tangent.ca, shard.ca, petabyte.ca, thrush.ca, and anesthesia.ca. Seven other registrars split the remaining 24, with MyID.ca INC., Webnames.ca Inc., and Register.ca Inc. each getting their slice.
The standout individual grab goes to Register.ca Inc. for emf.ca — a true three-letter rarity that commands respect. BareMetal.com inc can claim anesthesia.ca as their crown jewel: a ten-character dictionary word that suggests real end-user intent. carbs.ca and petabyte.ca both landed solid, practical names. The middle tier was crowded with five- and six-character dictionary words — wahoo.ca, shard.ca, latina.ca, wiped.ca — the kind of names that move quietly in the secondary market.
But here's what stings: firs.ca, bohr.ca, and suif.ca — all brand-100 four-character words — slipped through untouched and went to the open pool. So did interrogation.ca, articulation.ca, confectionary.ca, and sprouting.ca — each a solid ten-plus-character dictionary play that you'd expect to see contested. hymnals.ca, canaille.ca, and manie.ca all found their way to the commons too. That's unusual. Either the registrar pool was being selective, or there was genuine hesitation on some of these names.
The pattern here is telling: the big players concentrated fire on shorter, punchier names and left the longer dictionary words more exposed. WHC Online Solutions Inc. and BareMetal.com inc clearly had a hunting strategy, and it paid off with volume and quality. The slip-throughs suggest that even in a competitive market, there's room for patience — the real prize often waits in the open pool, not in the TBR scramble.
